Central Interregional Artisans of Peru

CIAP (Central Interregional Artisans of Peru) is a non-profit, self managed association of artisan producer groups that was founded in 1992.

CIAP’s mission is to promote the development of the artisans, their families and communities by marketing their products under better terms of trade.

Its member groups have different craft specialties including a wonderful array of hand painted ceramics and nativity sets, a large and vibrant range of musical instruments, handmade items of jewellery and clothing made from Alpaca wool.

The artisans are located in various regions of Peru as well as the marginalised districts of Lima.

The objectives of CIAP are as follows:

  • To defend and preserve the cultural identity of the Andes and Amazon regions.
  • To promote the organisation of artisans and to strengthen the existing ones.
  • To bring about improvement in the living condition of the artisans, their families and communities.
  • To support the complete development of the communities where the associations are located.

CIAP is a member of the International Federation of Alternate Trade.
